It’s weird, but I’m finding this much more calming than the old sunset photo I had. Something bad happen? Here, let me just minimize my 30 open programs — WOW! Look at that pickup!

You’ll probably get the same response I got when I put a picture of my Mazda5 as my wallpaper - “ Why, of all things in this world, would you have a minivan as your wallpaper? ” Some people just don’t understand...

My current laptop wallpaper! Surprise surprise!

Meanwhile, my desktop:
I do have backgrounds on my other PCs, but I’ve just used plain back forever (since back in the day when a 1280x1024 bmp background would actually eat a considerable portion of available RAM).

try this: [windows key] + [D]
It will minimize all open applications (I still don’t like the term ‘apps’, sounds too much like appetizers and makes me feel like I’m waiting tables again).

On my phone the unlock screen is the moon and the background is the earth. Those were preloaded onto the phone. It’s a small way to tell myself, all this shit doesn’t matter. AKA the overview affect: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overview_effect
Case in point, I just set up an appointment with a tax person in my town to start filing my taxes for 2017, 2018, & 2019. I’ve been dragging my ass and since I sold that house at a loss and TurboTax has causing a hiccup, I just ignored it. There shouldn’t be penalties that I know of (I have always gotten a refund) , but I think all years will have to be mailed in, then the wait to see if it gets rejected.

More specifically:
Windows + M minimizes all windows
Windows + D shows/hides the desktop
The main difference is that after hitting Windows + D to show the desktop, you can hit it again put all your windows back where they were.

definitely NSFW
(W e have corporate backgrounds on our machines... I can change it, but the very next morning it’s switched back to whatever motivational message we are supposed to stare at all day...)

IT has started dong that shit, or so I’ve heard. W e science types who know our computers have been able to circumvent the standard IT “configuration” procedure through various means. I retain all my administrative privileges on my computers and won’t let them install software. If they ever go all Big Brother on me, I’ll install a firmware password.
There was this dipshit in IT a couple years ago who would, on his own initiative, put his own backdoor password on desktops he configured so he could get in later if he ever got a service call. We put a stop to that real quick.

You know, I’m not a pickup guy, and even I kinda swoon over that pic. It’ s a good background.

Pretty much every photo app (iphone or otherwise) allows you to brighten up your photos within seconds, which I love. Just tap that contrast and light slider over a few ticks, and it looks way better.

Ha I am not surprised at all. Mine is currently some beautiful Citroens once featured on Jalopnik

I often do that on my phone, and it indeed is handy. I edited the picture above on my laptop using GIMP, though.

Have fun! I love papercraft cars. Th e best part is that when/if you get bored of them, you can have fun trying to run them over with remote-controlled trucks :P

Changed mine today too. Had to fire up photo shop to kill some really distant power lines...

Well, on the bright side, you can usually pop them back out again and have just a slightly “dented” paper car... though after a certain amount of crushings they get a bit floppy... I do try to preserve the especially nice/complex ones, though. I used to have a pretty large collection of them, until m y dog trampled about half... RIP 2cv, D uesenberg, B ugatti type 57 SC, Shelby GT350...

They left us far too soon :P

I learned my lesson pretty quick that my dog could not be trusted to enter my room and leave my stuff alone. Even with the door remaining closed, though, he still got in occasionally, and the paper cars were one of the casualties. I might still have a few of the survivors somewhere, though...
